Thomas the Tank Engine
Thomas the Tank Engine is a popular fictional steam train. He became well-known when the TV show Thomas and Friends was made. The idea for that TV show came from a series of books called The Railway Series. They were written by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry. The TV show was made by Britt Allcroft. The show was first broadcast in October in 1984. The first series had 26 stories about Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends. There are many other characters in the show, but two other trains called Percy and Toby are Thomas’ best friends.
The TV show was narrated by Ringo Starr. For those of you who don’t know Ringo Starr, he was the drummer, singer, and songwriter for the world famous group, The Beatles. Thomas the Tank Engine has now become popular in many countries around the world. If you haven’t seen him, look out for the friendly little blue steam train.
