The Wizard of Oz

“Follow the yellow brick road” and “There is no place like home” are two famous lines from the classic American movie, The Wizard of Oz. The Wizard of Oz was made in 1939 by MGM studios. The movie is based on the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which was written by L. Frank Baum. The lead role in the movie was played by Judy Garland. She played the character Dorothy. In the movie, Dorothy is sad and lonely. She becomes very upset when a mean old neighbor tries to take away her dog, Toto.


Dorothy tries to run away from home, but a big tornado arrives and Dorothy is struck on the head. When Dorothy wakes up, she is in a colorful fantasy land. Here she meets magical characters on her journey down a Yellow Brick Road to the Land of Oz. The Wizard of Oz was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It didn’t win the Best Picture award, but it did win the award for Best Original Song for the song “Over the Rainbow.” If you haven’t seen this movie, then it is well worth watching. It is a timeless classic that can be enjoyed by all ages and generations.
