Currywurst

A currywurst is a popular German fast food dish. It consists of a fried pork sausage which is cut into slices. This is covered with a kind of curry ketchup and topped with curry powder. It is also often served with French fries. It is thought to have been first made by Herta Charlotte Heuwer in Berlin in 1949. Berta owned a street stall in Charlottenburg, Berlin. Her stall became very popular. It is thought that the stall sold 10,000 servings of currywurst every week.

These days the currywurst is more popular than ever. There are now more than 2,000 snack bar stalls selling currywurst in Berlin. There are about 800,000 million portions of currywurst eaten in Germany every year. People in Berlin love currywurst so much that there is even a currywurst museum. It is said that it is good to eat after drinking beer. If you ever visit Berlin, you should try visiting Konnopke’s Imbiss. It is one of the most popular snack stalls in Berlin and the currywurst sold there is said to be very delicious.
